rainbows

   I've never understood rainbows --
   bows are supposed to wrap presents
   or hair,
   to add color and fluffy --
   none of this serenity and forgiveness garbage.

   Bows are about cute
   and wanting to be cute
   and gifts
   and making ribbons,
   well, decorative, not declarative:
   not about beauty
   and relief and reprieve
   and geometry and water vapor
   and freak metereological phenomena.

   And bows are all one color,
   solid and bright and worth remembering;
   spectrums are for the indecisive
   and the greedy and the visual gourmand.

   And don't get me started about rain.
